New Delhi. Union Health Minister JP Nadda has launched a large -scale campaign to root out lymphatic filariasis disease. The National Mass Drug Administration Campaign has been launched mainly to eliminate lymphatic filariasis spread over 13 states. Lymphatic filariasis is called elephant foot disease in common language. In this, one leg of the victim comes to swelling from top to bottom in the elephant and he looks like an elephant’s leg. The disease spreads mainly due to mosquitoes found in dirty water.

Inaugurating the National Mass Drug Administration Campaign, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said, “We have resolved to eliminate lymphatic filariasis from the root.” Today we are associated to confirm that resolution. Lymphatic filariasis may be caused by mosquitoes found in dirty water. This causes the main cause of elephantiasis and we have come very close to eliminating it completely.

He said, as I mentioned, our challenge is now access to the final level. In the challenge of this last mile, our health workers should go to schools and other targeted areas at the ground level and do mass drug administration and inspect direct treatment, it will be very beneficial. Our goal is to prevent this disease. Our aim should ensure that this disease no longer spread in future.

Health Minister said, our first priority is Mass Drug Administration. I request ministers to hold a person personally to assess how much mass drug administration has been done in this fortnight and how many people have taken the medicine for lymphatic filalices.
