New Delhi. In CBSE schools, students from 2026-2027 to 9th grade will give open book exams. CBSE has taken this innovative decision. According to CBSE, the proposal was approved in June. Under the National Education Policy, CBSE has decided to conduct an open book examination in 9th grade. This arrangement has been made to increase the understanding of the student instead of rote. According to CBSE, under the Open Book Examination, students of 9th grade will be able to check the book or notes at the time of examination. However, they will need to write answers according to their understanding. Students giving open book exams will have to solve their question paper on time.
According to CBSE, students in 9th standard will be able to take books and notes in the examination of Gani, Science, Social Science and Language. If the student does not understand anything in the question paper, then he will be able to understand it by looking at it with books and notes. Open book exams will be part of internal assessment. In this way, copying will also stop by taking the exam. Because while giving the test, the student will have books and notes of the related subject. CBSE conducted an open book pilot examination. In which the students who attended got between 12 and 47 percent.
CBSE had already decided to conduct the 10th board examination twice a year. Now every year there will be a board examination of 10th. This will give students a chance to improve marks in one or two subjects. However, CBSE has decided that if no student of 10th has given the examination of 3 or more subjects, then he will not be allowed to appear in the second board examination to be held in the same year. In this way, CBSE has given great facilities to students of 9th and 10th grade. It is believed that CBSE can implement it for more classes if the open book exam is successful.
