New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the people in Jamui, Jharkhand today, took the name of sickle cell anemia disease. Modi said, the benefits of education and earning are available only when the family remains healthy. Sickle cell anemia disease has been a big challenge for the tribal society. Our government has launched a national campaign to deal with this and it has been a year since it started. During this period, about four and a half crore people have been screened. Ayushman Arogya Mandir is being built so that tribal families do not have to go far for treatment. Mobile medical units are being established even in the most remote areas.

About Sickle Cell Anemia
Sickle cell anemia is a hereditary disease of a person’s blood. In this the red blood cells become abnormal and die quickly. Due to this, there is lack of oxygen in the body. Due to not getting enough oxygen, it affects other parts of the body and other organs like lungs, heart, kidneys, eyes, bones etc. also get affected. If it becomes more serious, the person suffering from it may even die. This disease is very common among the people of tribal society.
Symptoms and prevention
The main symptoms of a person suffering from sickle cell anemia are swelling in the joints, pain, stones in the gall bladder, frequent occurrence of fever or cold, swelling on the liver, children not developing properly etc. The person suffering from this remains at risk of infection because his immunity is greatly reduced. Since sickle cell anemia is a genetic disease, if both husband and wife are suffering from sickle disease, then their children will have 100 percent of the disease. Therefore, it is better to get it tested before marriage. People suffering from this should avoid excessive heat or sunlight. Along with this, one should be protected from extreme cold.
