Asaduddin Owaisi, Mallikarjun Kharge
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved the report of the committee constituted under the chairmanship of former President Ramnath Kovind on ‘One Nation One Election’. A proposal in this regard has been passed in the cabinet meeting. Now people’s opinion will be taken about it across the country and then it will be implemented. Meanwhile, the opposition has also started reacting to it. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that ‘One Nation One Election’ is not practical, it is not going to work. When elections come, they talk about all this. But the people of the country are also not going to accept it.
Owaisi protested
At the same time, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, I have consistently opposed ‘One Nation One Election’. It destroys federalism and compromises democracy, which is part of the basic structure of the Constitution. He said that multiple elections are not a problem for anyone except Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. Simply because they need to campaign a lot in municipal and local body elections as well. Frequent and periodic elections improve democratic accountability.
BSP adopted a positive stance
Meanwhile, BSP chief Mayawati has taken a positive stand on One Nation One Election. She wrote on the social media platform X – ‘Our party’s stand is positive on the approval given by the Union Cabinet today to the proposal to hold Lok Sabha, Assembly and local body elections simultaneously in the country under the system of ‘one country, one election’, but its objective must be in the national and public interest.’
this will turn out to be a hoax
On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party leader Sandeep Pathak said, ‘We believe that this is another slogan of BJP and Modi ji. They could not conduct simultaneous elections in 4 states and they are talking about One Nation One Election. First they should conduct simultaneous elections in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Delhi. If One Nation One Election is implemented, then if there is only 1 year left for the elections in any state, will they impose President’s rule there and do as they please? This will prove to be just a slogan.
try to divert attention
RJD leader Manoj Kumar Jha said, “There was One Nation One Election in this country, Modi ji is not bringing any rare gem. Why was it removed after 1962 because the dominance of a single party started ending… I will first see its draft. Suppose – elections are held, the government in Uttar Pradesh falls, then what will happen? Will you impose President’s rule? Will there be a system through the Governor till the next election or will there be elections again? … These (BJP) people have become experts in diverting attention, how to divert attention from basic things. Today the country needs employment… Will One Nation One Election create crores of employment opportunities? … You will be finished but diversity will remain.”
