Sri Lanka has arrested 7 fishermen from India. Sri Lanka claims that these fishermen had illegally entered its water area. According to the statement, Sri Lanka has also seized all fishermen ships. This is the second such case of this week when Sri Lanka has arrested Indian fishermen.
According to the Sri Lankan Navy spokesperson, the arrest took place in the Talimannar region on Monday, which falls in the Sri Lankan work. According to the Navy, fishermen and their ships that have been seized will be assigned to Fisheries Inspector at the Navy Port of Talimannar. Earlier on Sunday, the Navy arrested 10 people under the same charge.
Significantly, both India and Sri Lanka have often been arresting fishermen due to illegal entering each other’s water area. There is constant tension in both countries on this issue. Many times, the Navy of Sri Lanka near the Gulf of Palak also firing on these ships and seizes the ships for a long time.
Indeed, there is a small boundary between the two countries near the Gulf of Palak, which is very difficult to keep in mind. As a result, fishermen from both countries often cross the region and allegedly violate the rules of the international border. The Gulf of Palak is very close to Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has raised the issue of security of fishermen in front of the Government of India several times. He believes that there should be a concrete diplomatic dialogue between the two countries regarding this matter. Earlier, on 29 June, he gave Foreign Minister S.K. Writing a letter to Jaishankar, he has raised the demand for a safe return of the arrested fishermen.
