Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari of Jama Masjid.
New Delhi: Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, calling it an attack against Islam and humanity. In a statement on Friday, he said that killing innocent people is a sin that invites Allah’s anger. The royal Imam said, “It is written in Quran Pak that the killing of a human being is like killing the whole humanity, and saving a human being is like saving the whole humanity.” He described the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April as a shocking of India’s moral traditions and humanity.
‘Which Islam has been learned by the terrorists?’
Let me tell you that in the Pahalgam terror attack, the terrorists targeted innocent people by asking religion and killed Hindus when they were identified. In this incident, 26 people lost their lives while many others were injured. The royal Imam of Jama Masjid described it against the unforgivable crime and teachings of Islam. He questioned, ‘Which Islam has been learned by the terrorists who call themselves Muslims? By asking people his religion and knowing that he is a Hindu, he was murdered. It has nothing to do with the teachings, history and culture of Islam.
‘… then the situation may get worse’
The royal Imam warned that if such acts do not stop, the situation could get worse. He insisted that India and its rich culture would never accept such cruelty. Bukhari appealed to the countrymen to unite by forgetting the distinction between Hindu-Muslims. He said, “This is the time to stand like a rock for the unity, respect and sovereignty of the country.”
‘But we did not learn any lesson’
The royal Imam, referring to the Kovid epidemic, said that even during that time humanity suffered great sorrow, but we did not learn any lesson. He said that today the world is again immersed in violence and bloodshed. Bukhari described the traditions of co-existence and equality of India as the pride of the country, which makes us different in the world. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims in the Pahagam terror attack and prayed for peace, harmony and brotherhood in the world.
