Varanasi. Famous yoga guru Baba Shivanand has passed away. Baba Shivanand was 128 years old. Baba Shivanand died in Varanasi on Saturday. PM Narendra Modi was also his admirer. Baba Shivanand remained dedicated to yoga all his life. Baba Shivanand lived a simple life and used to eat boiled food. He never ate rice. In the year 2022, Baba Shivanand was awarded the Padma Shri. Baba Shivanand lived in Durgakund area in Bhelupur, Varanasi. He never went to school, but could talk in English indiscriminately. Baba Shivanand, who followed Brahmacharya all his life, was the oldest person to receive the Padma Shri honor.
Baba Shivanand used to wake up early. Then bathed and then meditated and did yoga. Baba Shivanand used to say that it is because of wishes that there are problems in a person’s life. How simple he was, it can be understood from the fact that when he was being given the Padma Shri honor, Baba Shivanand sat on his knees and thanked President Ramnath Kovind and PM Modi. The President himself raised him. Baba Shivanand, who has a lifestyle like yogis, gained fame worldwide apart from India.
Baba Shivanand was born on 8 August 1896 in the Brahmin family of Srihat, Bengal. This place is now in Bangladesh. His parents used to run life by asking for alms. At the age of just 4, Baba Shivanand was given by his parents to the famous monk Omkaranand Goswami, who lives in the Navadweep of West Bengal. When Shivanand was 6 years old, his parents and sister died of hunger. After this, Baba Shivanand took initiation from his guru and dedicated life to yoga. His death has caused great loss to the field of yoga.
