Baba Shivanand, who followed Brahmacharya all his life, was the oldest person to receive the Padma Shri honor.

Baba Shivanand was born on 8 August 1896 in the Brahmin family of Srihat, Bengal. This place is now in Bangladesh. His parents used to run life by asking for alms. At the age of just 4, Baba Shivanand was given by his parents to the famous monk Omkaranand Goswami, who lives in the Navadweep of West Bengal. When Shivanand was 6 years old, his parents and sister died of hunger. After this, Baba Shivanand took initiation from his guru and dedicated life to yoga. His death has caused great loss to the field of yoga.
