New Delhi. At present the political temperature is at its peak in Milkipur assembly seat of Uttar Pradesh. By-election is to be held on this much discussed seat of Ayodhya district on 5th February. The main contest is between Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party. SP has fielded Ajit Prasad, son of MP Awadhesh Prasad. At the same time, BJP has declared Chandrabhan Paswan as its candidate after a long wait.
Who is Chandrabhan Paswan?
Chandrabhan Paswan is a well-known name in the politics of Milkipur. He has been a District Panchayat member from Rudauli twice. Presently his wife is also holding the same post. Chandrabhan is a lawyer by profession and is also associated with the saree business. He has been active in Milkipur for the last two years, due to which he got the benefit of getting BJP ticket.

Caste equations became the center of elections
Caste equation is very important in Milkipur seat. There are 3.58 lakh voters here, of which 1 lakh are Dalits and 60 thousand are Yadavs. 55 thousand voters of Pasi community are in a decisive role. SP’s Ajit Prasad and BJP’s Chandrabhan Paswan both come from the Pasi community. BJP has challenged SP’s PDA (Backward, Dalit, Minority) formula by fielding Chandrabhan Paswan as its candidate.
Question of credibility for SP and BJP
In the 2022 assembly elections and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, SP had won Milkipur and Ayodhya. BJP is looking at this by-election with its prestige in mind. Despite the Ram Mandir issue, SP’s victory shocked the BJP. In such a situation, BJP has tried to solve the caste equation by betting on Chandrabhan Paswan.
What do the figures say?
According to media reports, Yadav, Pasi and Muslim voters are playing a decisive role in Milkipur seat. SP is considering its position strong with the support of these communities. At the same time, BJP is working on the strategy to make a dent in the Pasi society along with its core vote bank.
bet on new faces
This time, BJP has expressed confidence in Chandrabhan Paswan by ignoring old contenders like Gorakh Baba. Gorakh Baba had defeated SP’s Awadhesh Prasad in 2017, but this time BJP gave priority to caste equations.
