Female Loco Pilot Surekha Yadav
New Delhi: Indian women are writing their success story in every field. One of these women is Loco Pilot Surekha Yadav, who is not only India but the first train in Asia. India’s first female loco pilot Surekha Yadav created history by becoming the first woman to sit on the driver seat of Indian Railways train in 1988.
Surekha is also the first female driver of Vande Bharat Express train
Surekha Yadav’s achievement spread far beyond the railway track. He gave the message that women are also not behind men in any field. Surekha Yadav is also the first female loco pilot to run the country’s semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express train. 58 -year -old Surekha Yadav is a new example in many ways. Surekha Yadav, who hails from Satara in western Maharashtra region, has so far won several awards at the state and national level for her achievements.
Who is Surekha Yadav?
Asia’s first female train driver is not interested in any introduction. Surekha was born on 2 September 1965 in Satara district of Maharashtra. After his early education, he did a vocational training course. Its Sursha did a diploma in electrical engineering. During his studies, Surekha used to dream about her career. She wanted to do something different out of the box.
Surekha Yadav was very fond of trains since childhood. When the vacancy for the train driver came out, he filled the form and passed in the year 1986. After this, he also passed the interview. Surekha was appointed as a trainee driver at Kalyan Training School. As soon as training was completed, Assistant was promoted to the post of Loco Pilot and regularly became the driver of the train. Surekha first got a chance to run the goods train. Later, when the promotion took place, she became the loco pilot of an express train.
Major achievements of Surekha Yadav
India’s first Ladies Special Train Driver: In April 2000, Surekha launched the first “Ladies Special” local train for Central Railway, which was launched under the leadership of the then Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee. It was an important milestone in his career.
Asia’s first woman to run Deccan Queen train: On International Women’s Day in 2011, she crossed the challenging area of the Western Ghats and created history by becoming the first woman in Asia to run the prestigious Deccan Queen train from Pune to Mumbai.
Vande Bharat Express Pilot: Surekha became the first woman to run India’s semi-high speed Vande Bharat Express in March 2023. He drove the train from Solapur to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal (CSMT), covering a distance of 455 km. This achievement was also mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat program.
