Kannada actress Ranya Rao
Bengaluru: Gold rods worth Rs 12.56 crore have been seized from Kannada actress Ranya Rao at Kemp Gowda International Airport in Bangalore in Karnataka. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRE) gave this information on Wednesday. Based on intelligence information, DRI officials stopped a 33 -year -old Indian woman passenger, who reached Bangalore from Dubai on March 3 from Dubai.
After this action, DRI officials searched her (Kannada actress) residential complex on Lavel Road, Bangalore, where she lives with her husband. The search seized gold jewelery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Indian currency worth Rs 2.67 crore. The female passenger has been arrested under the relevant provisions of Customs Act, 1962.
Who is Kannada actress Ranya Rao?
A senior police official said that actress Ranya Rao is the half -daughter of senior IPS officer Ramchandra Rao. Ramchandra Rao is currently working as Director General of Police of Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation. Before the arrest, she lived with her husband in a residential complex on Lavel Road in Bangalore.
The first wife of the police officer died and married a woman who had two daughters from her first marriage. Ranya is one of them. 33 -year -old actress Ranya Rao made her debut in 2014 with Kannada film Manikya.
Ranya Rao is accused of smuggling gold
Ranya Rao is accused that two people accompanying him were carrying the gold of smuggling in the briefcase. They had almost passed through security checks at Kamphegowda Airport and were about to exit, when the DRI team, who had special intelligence about the smuggling attempt, stopped him and started searching. A DRI statement said, “On investigation, gold rods weighing 14.2 kg were found to be cleverly hidden on the person’s body. Smuggled worth Rs 12.56 crore, which was confiscated under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962.
According to the report, Ranya Rao has often been making small trips to the Gulf countries and due to this she came on the radar of DRI. Ranya Rao is the step daughter of a senior IPS officer.
