New Delhi. Indian Army and Manipur Police are making continuous efforts to find Laishram Kamalbabu Singh of Meitei community who went missing in Imphal West, Manipur. No clue has been found so far about 56-year-old Singh, who was missing since November 25, 2024. More than 2000 soldiers, helicopters, drones and sniffer dogs have been deployed in their search.
Who is Laishram Kamalbabu Singh?
Laishram Kamalbabu Singh lived in Khukrul area of Imphal West in Manipur. Singh, originally from Cachar district of Assam, was working as a contractor work supervisor of the Military Engineering Service (MES) of the Army’s 57th Mountain Division at Leimakhong military base. He has not been traceable after his sudden disappearance from the military base on November 25.
Search operation continues, army exerted all its might
A large-scale search operation is going on since November 25 to search for Laishram Kamalbabu Singh. More than 2000 soldiers are deployed in the joint operation of the Army and Manipur Police. Helicopters, drones and army sniffer dogs are being used in this operation. Technical intelligence is also being used to trace Singh.
Chief Minister gave strict instructions
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has expressed deep concern over the matter and directed the military authorities to find Singh as soon as possible. He has appealed to speed up the investigation into the incident. The family and local people are angry after Singh’s disappearance. Protests are continuing in Kanto Sabal, 2.5 km from the military base, led by his wife Akoizam Belarani. The protesters have blocked roads and alleged that Singh has been kidnapped by militants.

Connection to Manipur violence?
More than 250 people have lost their lives so far in the caste violence that started in Manipur in May last year. Due to the violence, many people of the Meitei community were forced to leave their homes. This area of Kangpokpi district is dominated by the Kuki community, who live in the hilly areas. Protesters believe the violence may be linked to Singh’s disappearance.

The disappearance of Laishram Kamalbabu Singh has become a matter of concern not only for his family but for the entire Meitei community. The army and police say that they are making every possible effort. However, tension is increasing amid hopes of locating the missing Singh soon.
