New Delhi. The BJP has declared its candidates for the Delhi MCD Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections. On the last day of nomination, today Delhi BJP state president Virendra Sachdeva informed Raja Iqbal Singh as the candidate for the post of Mayor and Jai Bhagwan Yadav as Deputy Mayor. Now that the Aam Aadmi Party has decided not to field its candidate in the mayor’s election, it is sure to become the Mayor of BJP’s Raja Iqbal Singh and Jai Bhagwan Yadav’s deputy mayor in terms of number force.
Raja Iqbal Singh, who comes from the Sikh community, is a BJP councilor from Mukherjee Nagar in Delhi. He is also the Leader of Opposition in MCD. This is the second term of Raja Iqbal Singh as a councilor. Raja Iqbal has earlier been the Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation. Apart from this, he has also worked as the former chairman of the Ward Committee in the Civil Line Zone. He has done his BSc from Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College of Delhi University North Campus. After this, he obtained LLB degree from Chaudhary Charan Singh University of Meerut.
At the same time, when we talk about BJP’s deputy mayor candidate Jai Bhagwan Yadav, he is a councilor from Begumpur in Narela Zone. He is also the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in MCD. The MCD Mayor is to be elected on 25 April, which requires 132 votes to win a political party and make it its mayor. Talking about BJP, it has a total of 135 votes, including councilors, MLAs and MPs, which is more than the number. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party has 119 figures.
