Coimbatore. You must have heard the name of Jaggi Vasudev. Devotees of Jaggi Vasudev call him Sadguru. Jaggi Vasudev is again embroiled in a controversy. A retired professor has alleged that Jaggi Vasudev made his daughters Sanyasini in Isha Foundation. Whereas, he married his daughters. On this allegation, Madras High Court had ordered an investigation into Jaggi Vasudev. The Supreme Court has put a stay on this investigation and now only the highest court of the country will hear the case. Jaggi Vasudev was born on 3 September 1957. He comes from Yadav family. Jaggi Vasudev i.e. Sadhguru’s father was a doctor. Jaggi Vasudev says that he used to meditate since childhood. Jaggi Vasudev also has expertise in catching snakes. He started practicing yoga at the age of 11. Jaggi Vasudev also holds a bachelor’s degree in English Language from Mysuru University. He received the Padma Vibhushan award in 2017. Jaggi Vasudev has founded Isha Foundation. It has about 2.5 lakh volunteers. Many famous people are also associated with Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. Isha Foundation also claims to remove mental and physical problems of people. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s Isha Foundation has planted 82 lakh saplings. In 2006, Isha Foundation made a place in the Guinness Book of World Records by planting 8.52 lakh saplings in a single day. He has also received the Indira Gandhi Environment Award in 2008. Isha Foundation is also running a scheme for conservation of rivers.
Isha Yoga Center also comes under Isha Foundation. Isha Yoga Center is built on Velingiri mountain located in the Nilgiri hills. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev and his yoga teachers and volunteers teach Bhakti, Kriya, Karma and Gyan Yoga to people at Isha Yoga Centre. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev had installed a 13 feet 9 inches high Shivling made of mercury at the Isha Yoga Center in 1999. This is the world’s tallest Shivalinga made of mercury. It has been named Dhyanalinga. Isha Foundation and Isha Yoga Center are open to followers of all religions. Dhyanalinga Yoga Temple has symbols of all religions. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev was earlier also accused of promoting superstition. Apart from this, he was also accused of presenting science to the people in a wrong manner. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev was also accused of presenting a modified version of history by describing the past of Hindutva as golden. He was also accused of misinterpreting the work of Charles Darwin and justifying Hindu death rituals.
