New Delhi. Sultana Begum, who claimed to be a widow of the last ruler of the Mughal Empire, Bahadur Shah Zafar, had filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding ownership at the Red Fort, which was rejected today. A bench headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna said that this petition is not hearing in any way. The CJI described Sultana Begum’s petition as absurd. The CJI also asked Sultana Begum why only demanded the Red Fort, why Fatehpur left Sikri.
Sultana Begum had earlier taken a similar petition in the Delhi High Court. The petition was also rejected by the single bench of the High Court and later the Division Bench. Sultana Begum appealed in the High Court in the year 2021. The single bench of the Delhi High Court while hearing the petition said that there was a delay of more than 164 years in the filed of the case. Due to which this petition is not hearing. The petition was dismissed by the High Court citing this. After this, Sultana Begum applied before the Division Bench of the High Court, but the Division Bench said that the petition came before the Division Bench after more than two and a half years of the order of the single bench and for this reason he refused to hear the petition.
Then Sultana Begum approached the Supreme Court, but his petition was also rejected there. Sultana Begum lives in Kolkata and her financial condition is very bad. She is living in a hut there. Begum says that being the legal successor of Bahadur Shah Zafar II, he is spent by a pension of Rs 6 thousand from Hazrat Nizamuddin Trust.
