The Supreme Court has granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi Excise Policy case. The bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuinya, hearing the case, has granted bail to CM Kejriwal on a bond of Rs 10 lakh. Along with granting bail, the court has imposed some conditions on Arvind Kejriwal’s bail, under which Kejriwal will neither be able to go to his office nor sign any government file. Who is Justice Suryakant?
Justice Suryakant was born in Hisar, Haryana on 10 February 1962. He did his early education in Hisar itself. He did his graduation from Government College, Hisar. After this, he got a law degree from Maharishi Dayanand University in 1984. After this, he got a master’s degree in law from Kurukshetra Open University. After this, after studying law in 1984, Justice Suryakant started his practice from the District Court. In the year 1985, he came to Chandigarh and started practicing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court of Chandigarh.
Who is Justice Ujjwal Bhuinya?
Justice Bhuinya was born on 2 August 1964 in Guwahati, Assam. It is from here that Ujjwal Bhuinya did his early education. After this, he took admission in Kirori Mal College of Delhi University. After completing his graduation from here, Justice Bhuinya returned to Guwahati and obtained LLB degree from Government Law College. It is to be noted that Justice Bhuinya started practicing law in the year 1991. He continued to practice in Guwahati for a long time. In the year 2010, he was appointed as Senior Advocate by Guwahati High Court. After this, in July 2011, he was appointed as Advocate General of Assam.
The youngest AG and will become Chief Justice next year
Justice Suryakant was appointed Advocate General of Haryana on 7 July 2000. Justice Suryakant is the youngest person to become Advocate General. In 2004, he was appointed as a permanent judge of the Punjab and Haryana Court. After this, he was transferred to Himachal Pradesh High Court. After this, in the year 2019, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Suryakant, which was approved by the Central Government. Let us tell you that the dynamic Justice Suryakant is in line to become the next Chief Justice of India. If the seniority rule is followed, Justice Suryakant will become the Chief Justice of India on 24 December 2025. His tenure will be 1.2 years and he will retire from his post on 9 February 2027.
