New Delhi. The result of Mayor election in Delhi has gone in favor of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). AAP councilor Mahesh Kheri has been elected the new Mayor of Delhi. A total of 265 votes were cast in the mayoral election, out of which two were declared invalid. AAP candidate Mahesh got 133 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate had to be content with 130 votes. BJP gave a tough fight to AAP in this election, and ultimately lost by just three votes.
AAP also captured the post of Deputy Mayor
BJP’s candidate for the post of Deputy Mayor, Neeta Bisht, withdrew her nomination, leaving Aam Aadmi Party’s Ravindra Bhardwaj to become the Deputy Mayor of Delhi unopposed. After the completion of the election process, the proceedings of the House were adjourned till the next meeting. Ravindra Bhardwaj is a councilor from Aman Vihar and has been actively working in his area.

BJP got more votes than expected, case of cross voting
Interestingly, BJP had a total of 120 votes, but in the election results it got 10 more votes. This means that ten councilors of Aam Aadmi Party cross-voted in favor of BJP. As per available information, AAP had 142 votes, which includes three Rajya Sabha MPs, 13 MLAs, and 126 councilors. On the other hand, BJP had the support of seven Lok Sabha MPs and 114 councillors, giving it a total of 122 votes.
Mahesh Khedi’s statement after becoming mayor
After becoming Mayor, Mahesh Khedi said, “The way Arvind Kejriwal has worked for the people of Delhi, I will also work diligently in the same way. My priority will be to work for the cleanliness of the city. We will work in the interest of the people of Delhi.”
Who is Mahesh Khedi?
Mahesh Khedi is a 46-year-old councilor and Aam Aadmi Party representative from Dev Nagar ward number 84 of Karol Bagh. This ward comes under Karol Bagh assembly constituency. Mahesh is a graduate from Delhi University and studied B.Com from Motilal Nehru College. He remains active in his area and has popularity among the public.
