New Delhi. Vice Admiral Aarti Sarin took over as the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services today. She is the first woman officer to take charge as the chief of tri-service armed forces medical services. With this, Aarti Sareen has also become the highest ranking female officer serving in the Indian Armed Forces. Sarin was commissioned into the Armed Forces Medical Services on 26 December 1985. After holding the rank of Captain in the Army, he was appointed as a Surgical Lieutenant in the Navy in 1989. He served in the Navy till 2022. After this he got the appointment of Air Marshal in the Air Force. In this way, Vice Admiral Sarin has long experience of serving in the Army, Navy and Air Force.

In 2022, Aarti Sareen took charge as the Commandant of the Pune-based Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC). The special thing is that he had completed his MBBS graduation from this college. From here he did post graduation in Radiology. Apart from this, Dr. Sarin also obtained a degree in DNB Radiation Oncology from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Dr. Sarin has also received training in Gamma Knife Surgery from the University of Pittsburgh, USA.
For her distinguished services, Aarti Sarin has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2024 and the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2021. Apart from the Chief of the Army Staff Commendation in 2017, he has also been awarded the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Commendation in 2013 and the Chief of the Naval Staff Commendation Card in 2001. Vice Admiral Aarti Sareen’s family background is also associated with the army. Her husband Sudeep Naidu is a liver transplant surgeon and a former Rear Admiral in the Navy. Aarti’s father was also in the Navy and participated in World War II and the 1971 war. Aarti’s brother Rajesh has also been the commander of three submarines and a frigate in the Navy.
