New Delhi. In the Delhi Assembly, BJP MLA Neelam Pahalwan raised the demand for the name of Najafgarh to be named Nahargarh and also submitted a proposal in this regard. The MLA from Najafgarh claimed that the Mughals had changed the name of Nahargarh to Najafgarh. BJP MLA Neelam Pahalwan in the assembly said that we have raised the demand to name Najafgarh ‘Nahargarh’ many times. When Pravesh Verma ji was an MP, we also made many efforts in this regard through him. Our demand is that Najafgarh should be known from his real name Nahargarh.
Raja Nahar Singh played a major role in the 1857 rebellion. He fought the British and included Najafgarh area in Delhi. Nahar Singh, son of Maharaja Ram Singh of Ballabhgarh, was born on 6 April 1921. He was crowned in 1839. King Nahar Singh had ironed the British on many occasions and many times he had dust. Due to his valor and bravery, King Nahar Singh started knocking in the eyes of the British. The British hatched a conspiracy against King Nahar Singh. He called King Nahar Singh to the Red Fort in Delhi by pretending to be the treaty. When Nahar Singh reached there, the British arrested him. After this, Nahar Singh was hanged on 9 January 1858 in Chandni Chowk, Delhi.

At the same time, the name of the commander of the Mughal army was Najaf Khan, after whose name Nahargarh was named Najafgarh. Najaf Khan fought many battles for the Mughal emperor Shah Alam II. Happy with this, Shah Alam handed over the command of Najafgarh area to Najaf Khan. After this the fort was constructed there and that place was named Najafgarh in the name of the commander. On the other hand, BJP MLA Anil Sharma has raised the demand to change the name of Mohammadpur village to Madhavapuram in his assembly.
