The monsoon session of Parliament (July 21 to 21 August 2025) is going to be a center of discussion on Operation Sindoor and US President Donald Trump’s India-Pakistan ceasefire claims. These issues are related to national security and India’s foreign policy, so debate in Parliament is very important. The Congress and India alliance raised these issues loudly and forced the BJP to discuss. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said in an all -party meeting on 20 July 2025, “The government is ready to respond to the claims of Operation Sindoor and Trump under the parliamentary rules.
Importance of discussion
Operation Sindoor began on 6-7 May 2025, which was the response to Pahalgam terror attack (26 deaths) on 22 April. India attacked nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoK, killing more than 150 terrorists. Trump claimed that he intercepted the India-Pakistan ceasefire, which India dismissed and emphasized bilateral talks. Trump’s claim questions India’s sovereignty and autonomy of foreign policy. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “Trump claimed 23 times in 66 days that he stopped the war. It is a threat to the sovereignty of the country.” It is necessary to discuss this in Parliament so that the truth of the government’s silence is revealed and the transparency of national security policies is ensured.
Congress pressure
The Congress and India alliance strategized at the virtual meeting on July 19, in which it was decided to raise the claims of the Operation Sindoor, Pahalgam attack and Trump’s claims prominently. Rahul Gandhi insisted on opposition unity, saying, “The ruling party will benefit from the scatter. We have to unite and ask for a reply from the PM.” Congress MP Pramod Tiwari questioned the US pressure behind the terrorists not yet caught in the Pahalgam attack and the ceasefire. The Congress increased pressure on the government by adding other issues like voter list amendment (SIR) and foreign policy in Bihar. In a meeting led by Sonia Gandhi, 24 parties formulated a united strategy, which forced the BJP to discuss.
BJP’s compulsion
Initially the government was silent on these issues, but the aggressive stance of the opposition and the demand of 51 parties in the all -party meeting before the Parliament session forced the BJP to respond. Rijiju said, “We are ready to discuss all issues, but under the rules.” The Congress strategy forced the BJP to respond to sensitive issues such as Operation Sindoor, but also Trump’s claims and intelligence failure, expecting a sharp debate in Parliament.
