According to an official statement by the Ministry of Maharashtra Culture, the state government has given an affidavit in the Bombay High Court that it will immerse all the domestic Ganpati idols only in artificial ponds.
According to the statement, large idols of Ganeshotsav mandals will be immersed in the sea according to their over 100 years old tradition.
According to the affidavit, the state government had also proposed to take several remedial measures to reduce pollution from immersion of idols of plaster of Paris (POP) in the sea.
The affidavit given in the High Court also states that the decision was taken after the recommendation of the committee headed by senior scientist Anil Kakodkar. According to the release, the hearing of the case will be held tomorrow in the Bombay High Court.
Earlier on July 10, the public Ganeshotsav, which is a tradition over 100 years old, was officially declared “Maharashtra State Festival”. The announcement was made by the state’s cultural affairs Minister Advocate Ashish Shelar in the Assembly.
While giving a statement in the assembly, Minister Ashish Shelar said, “The public Ganeshotsav was started in Maharashtra by Lokmanya Tilak in 1893. The festival is deeply connected with social, national and linguistic pride as well as freedom and self-respect. It is still continuing with the same spirit. It is a matter of pride and respect for Maharashtra.
He emphasized that the Maharashtra government is committed to preserving and promoting the cultural significance and global presence of this festival.
He also highlighted that some persons have tried to challenge the traditional public celebration of Ganeshotsav in various courts for various reasons.
However, the Mahayuti Sarkar led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Dada Pawar has worked fast to remove all such sanctions and legal obstacles.
Ganeshotsav, also known as Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten -day festival which lasts till Anant Chaturdashi. This year Ganesh Chaturthi will start from Wednesday, August 27.
