The Karnataka High Court recently heard a strange case, knowing about which the judge was baffled. Actually, a woman has filed cases against 10 different men between 2011 and 2022, which includes five cases of rape. While hearing the case, the judge got angry and questioning the woman, he has directed the Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police to alert all the police stations across the state about this female plaintiff.
Court order to stop 11th case
Justice M. Nagaprasanna directed the DGP to inform all police stations in Karnataka about the identity of the woman, her past records, etc., to ensure that she cannot further abuse the process of law. The order said that the details of the woman complainant should be available on the database of police stations, so that they can be alert when the complainant wants to register a crime against another man. The police station before which this complainant wants to register the crime should not register the crime without any proper preliminary investigation. This is to prevent the rampant registration of crimes against multiple men. 10 cases have been seen, this is just to prevent the 11th case.
The court passed the order cancelling a case
The court passed the direction while quashing one of the cases registered on the woman’s complaint under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). While going through the case papers during the last hearing, the court found that the woman appeared to be a “serial litigant” and had filed 10 criminal cases against 10 different men between 2011 and 2022. The first case was registered in 2011. Four years later, the woman filed a criminal complaint against a man named Hanumesha for criminal intimidation. This year, she filed a complaint against a third man, Santosh, accusing him of raping her on the promise of marriage. The series continued and she filed a total of 5 cases of rape, 2 for cruelty and 3 for molestation and criminal intimidation against 10 men between 2011 and 2022.
