New Delhi. The Modi government is going to work fast towards giving women 33 percent reservation in Lok Sabha and Assembly. According to sources, with the end of the census work, the delimitation of Lok Sabha and Assembly seats will also be started immediately. With this, it will be possible to reserve 33 percent seats for women in the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2029. The Modi government had promised while passing the law reserving 33 per cent seats for women in Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly that it would be implemented from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
According to sources, the census work is going to start soon. The central government wants to complete the census work by mid -2027. With the census figures, the Election Commission will deliver the assembly seats along with the Lok Sabha. In 2011, 543 seats were fixed in the Lok Sabha on the basis of census. The Constitution states that there should be at least 60 and a maximum of 500 seats in the assembly of any state of India. According to the previous delimitation, UP is the highest population in 85 Lok Sabha seats. Whereas, UP has 403 seats in the assembly. It is believed that after delimitation according to the latest population data, the number of Lok Sabha seats in UP can be around 130.
Through the 128th Constitutional Amendment, the Modi government passed the bill of women’s reservation from Parliament in the year 2023. Earlier, during the era of all governments, women were tried to bring a bill of 33 percent reservation in Lok Sabha and Assembly, but no consensus could be made on it. The SP MPs had once snatched a copy of the bill and tore. Apart from SP, RJD was also against the first women’s reservation bill. Apart from passing this bill in the Lok Sabha with a majority, the Modi government also passed the Rajya Sabha. In this way, in 2029, women will get 33 percent reservation in the Lok Sabha first and then in the assemblies of all the states. This will empower women and they will be able to play their role in the development of the country and in a solid way.
