New Delhi. Vinesh Phogat’s recent disqualification from Paris Olympics 2024 and her subsequent decision to retire from the sport was an emotional moment for the whole country. After the disqualification, she did not get any medal and announced her retirement from wrestling. Recently, before the Haryana Assembly elections, Vinesh joined the Congress party and entered the political arena, which has started a new debate. Now 2012 London Olympics bronze medalist Yogeshwar Dutt has reacted sharply on this issue. In an interview to a media channel, he clearly said that Vinesh Phogat should have apologized to the country, and the atmosphere created regarding her disqualification was not right.
“The country’s image has been tarnished” – Yogeshwar Dutt
Yogeshwar said, “Vinesh’s decision to join politics is personal, but the country should know the truth. Whatever happened in the last one year, whether it was the matter of disqualification from the Olympics or the issue of protests, all this was going to harm the country’s image. When the new Parliament building was about to be inaugurated, an attempt was made to present a wrong image of the country to the world.”
Vinesh should have apologized to the country
Yogeshwar Dutt said in clear words that Vinesh should have apologized to the whole country after being disqualified. He said, “Vinesh should have accepted that she made a mistake and she herself is responsible for it. Under the rules of the Olympics, whether the weight difference is of 1 gram or 100 grams, disqualification will be done. Instead, Vinesh presented it as a conspiracy and blamed the Prime Minister of the country.”
A wrong atmosphere was created – Yogeshwar Dutt
Yogeshwar Dutt also said that a wrong atmosphere was created in the country regarding Vinesh’s disqualification. He said, “During the protest, people were gathered and it was shown as if injustice was done to Vinesh. But the truth is that if I had been disqualified in place of Vinesh, I would have apologized to the whole country.”
