New Delhi. From the by-elections held on 9 assembly seats in UP to the Maharashtra Assembly elections, UP CM Yogi Adityanath had vigorously campaigned for BJP and NDA candidates. Yogi’s slogan ‘Bantenge to Katenge’ remained in discussion throughout this election. Although BJP’s allies in Maharashtra also raised objection to this slogan of Yogi, but now when the trends of the results of UP and Maharashtra elections are out, one thing is clear from it that the public has understood Yogi’s point of ‘Bantenge to Katenge’ and UP CM Akhilesh Yadav’s PDA formula did not work against this slogan.
If we talk about Uttar Pradesh Assembly by-elections, there was a direct contest between the candidates of BJP and Samajwadi Party. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav was confident of victory on the basis of Backward, Dalit and Minority (PDA) formula. At the same time, Yogi Adityanath gave the message of unity in every rally and appealed to the public to learn lessons from history. Referring to many old incidents, Yogi asked people to be cautious of those who divide in the name of caste and varna and gave the slogan ‘Batenge to Katenge’. According to the trends of election results so far, BJP is ahead in 6 seats and its ally RLD is ahead in 1 seat. In this way, BJP seems to be getting 7 out of 9 seats, while Samajwadi Party is leading on only 2 seats.
Before this election, Akhilesh Yadav had almost bypassed Congress and proposed to give it only 2 seats, but Congress later decided not to field its candidates in the assembly elections. Akhilesh Yadav was overconfident on his PDA formula but the trends of the assembly elections are a big blow for him. On the other hand, in Maharashtra too, the people have supported BJP and the Mahayuti alliance of BJP has gone far ahead of the majority seats in the trends so far.
