A banker, who attended the controversial show of comedian Kunal Kamra, has been called as a witness. The police gave this information on Wednesday.
A case has been registered against Kamra for alleged sarcasm on Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
However, the police later told the person from Navi Mumbai that they do not need to appear immediately. Kamra regretted social media for the inconvenience caused by that person on this.
Earlier on Tuesday, the police denied reports that the audience who came to Kunal Kamra’s show had been called to record the statement.
A senior police officer said that summons has been sent to the banker. He booked the ticket for Kamra’s show through the ‘Book My Show’ app.
On the complaint of Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, a case of alleged defamation was registered against Kamra at Khar police station on March 28.
The official said that the banker was asked to be present as the police wanted to record the statements of the witnesses. The officer said that before sending the notice, the investigating officer called the banker and asked him to come to the Khar police station.
The official said that after some incidents in the case came to light later, the police told the banker that they do not need to appear immediately. The official said that he will be called whenever his statement is needed.
On the other hand, Kamra cited reports in the media stating that the banker had to cancel his holidays due to police summons.
Kamra wrote in her post on ‘X’, ‘I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience you got because of participating in my show. Please email me so that I can arrange to spend your next holiday at any place of your choice in India.
According to reports, the person was to return from holiday on April 6 but had to return to Mumbai on Monday.
Kamra recently sang a song during one of her shows, indirectly used for Shinde to use the word Gaddar.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders often call Shinde and his supporters as traitors, who in June 2022 revolted against party chief Uddhav Thackeray and divided the Shiv Sena.
On Sunday night, Shiv Sena activists vandalized the ‘Habitat Comedy Club’ located in Khar area of Mumbai.
