The High Court commented on the petition of Live-in partner.
Nainital: A petition challenging the compulsory registration of live-in relation in the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) recently implemented in the state was heard in the Uttarakhand High Court. During this time, the High Court commented that ‘When you live together shamelessly, then how did it attack your privacy?’
Attack on secrecy
Explain that the petitioner had approached the High Court against the UCC’s provision for compulsory registration of live-in relation in UCC or imprisonment for imprisonment and fine. The petitioner said that they are distressed by this provision of UCC as their privacy is being attacked through it.
Provision is becoming a hindrance in privacy
He also claimed that being an inter -religious couple, it is difficult for him to stay in the society and register his relationship. Advocate of the petitioners argued that many live-in relations have been converted into successful marriages and this provision is hindering their future and privacy.
Living in society
At the same time, a division bench of High Court Chief Justice G. Narendra and Justice Alok Mehra said, “You are living in the society, not in a far -flung cave of the forest.” Everyone knows about your relationship from neighbors to society and you are living together shamelessly without getting married. Then, how can the registration of live-in relationship be attacked by your privacy? ”
Hearing will be held on April 1
Earlier, on the PIL and other petitions filed against the UCC, the court had directed that people suffering from UCC could knock the door of the High Court. At present, the court will hear the matter on April 1 with other similar petitions. (Input-PTI)
