Often when we go to the railway station to board the train to our friends or relatives, we have to buy a platform ticket to go to the platform. If caught without platform ticket, fine and strict action can be taken. But have you ever thought that if you board the train by mistake, you can travel on a platform ticket?
Platform ticket price and validity
Indian Railways has priced the platform ticket at only Rs 10, and this ticket is valid for 2 hours. Its main purpose is to take you to the platform, not to travel in the train.
What to do if you board the train by mistake?
If due to hurry or emergency you have boarded the train with a platform ticket, then there is no need to panic. As per Indian Railways rules, you have to first meet the TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) in the train. You can get a ticket from TTE till the next station, but along with it you will also have to pay a fine of Rs 250.
emergency travel status
If you suddenly have to catch a train on platform ticket due to some emergency, then the best way is to contact TTE and get the ticket till your destination. TTE can give you a ticket with penalty, so that you can travel legally.
waiting ticket rule
If you have booked a waiting ticket online and it is not confirmed, then you cannot travel in the train. As per Indian Railways rules, traveling with a waiting ticket is invalid and action can be taken against you if caught.
Do’s and Don’ts:
