0 in one innings and century in the other, two batsmen have done this 3 times, both are lefties

New Delhi. The world of sports is amazing. One day it takes you to the heights and the next day it throws you down to the ground and makes you realize the reality of life. The game of cricket is no different. One day a player is successful in scoring a lot of runs and the next day it becomes difficult for him to score even a single run. There are a good number of batsmen in Test cricket who got out at 0 in one innings and scored a century in the other (0 and century in same test). India’s legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Vishwanath, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara are included in this.

There are two batsmen in this list who have scored a century in one innings of a Test match and got out for 0 runs in the second innings thrice. The interesting thing is that both of them are left-handed batsmen. West Indies’ Indian-origin Shivnarine Chanderpaul and England’s Andrew Strauss have become members of this special club thrice. The similarity between these two batsmen does not end here. Both have taken up the responsibility of captaining their team and have played more than 100 Tests and ODIs. Both have retired from international cricket.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul can be considered the second biggest batsman of West Indies after Brian Lara. He played 164 Tests, 268 ODIs and 22 T20Is. He has 11867 runs with the help of 30 centuries in Test cricket, 8778 runs with the help of 11 centuries in ODIs and 343 runs in T20Is. Not only this, he has also captained the West Indies team in 14 Tests and 16 ODIs. On the other hand, England’s Andrew Strauss played 100 Tests, 127 ODIs and 4 T20s. He scored 7037 runs with the help of 21 centuries in Tests, 4205 runs with the help of 6 centuries in ODIs and 73 runs in T20Is. He also captained England in 50 Tests, 62 ODIs and 3 T20Is and lived up to the role.

When Chanderpaul hit a century along with 0 in the test
Chanderpaul, who made his international debut in March 1994, was out for the first time on 0 after scoring a century (118 runs) in the Georgetown Test against England in February 1998. In the Durban Test against South Africa in December 2003, he was once again out on 0 in the first innings while scoring 109 runs in the second innings. Chanderpaul joined this ‘special club’ for the third and last time in December 2008 in the Napier Test against New Zealand. After scoring an unbeaten 126 runs in the first innings, he could not open his account in the second innings.

Many pairs of sisters played international cricket, one twin even has the same face

Tests in which Strauss scored a century and also 0

Talking about Strauss, this batsman who made his international debut in November 2003, first got out on 0 after scoring a century in the Johannesburg Test against South Africa in January 2005. After scoring 147 runs in the first innings, he fell prey to Makhaya Ntini in the second innings without scoring any runs. In the Napier Test against New Zealand in March 2007, he got out on 0 in the first innings while in the second innings he played a tremendous innings of 177 runs. The third and last time this happened to him was in November 2010 in the Brisbane Test against Australia. After getting out on 0 in the first innings, he played an innings of 110 runs in the second innings.

International career of just 12 days, he took a ‘paw’ including a hat-trick in the last ODI but…

He has also scored 100+ and 90+ scores in Test innings
The similarity between these two batsmen does not end here. Both batsmen have scored more than 100 runs in one innings of a match and more than 90 runs in the second. Chanderpaul has done this twice and Strauss once. Chanderpaul did this for the first time in the Lord’s Test against England in July 2004. In the first innings of this test, he scored 128 not out and in the second innings, he scored 97 not out. After this, in May 2005, in the first innings of the Bridgetown Test against Pakistan, Chanderpaul scored 92 runs and in the second innings, he scored 153 not out. Similarly, Strauss also remained unbeaten by scoring 94 runs in the second innings after scoring 126 runs in the first innings in the Gqebertha Test against South Africa in December 2004.
