It was around 6:24 pm on 11 July 2006. There was a huge crowd of people returning from the office at major railway stations in Mumbai. On hearing the loud sound of the blast, there was chaos at the station and people started hitting each other. People started running, stampede and there was an atmosphere of shouts all around. But this was the first blast. After this, there were bomb blasts in seven consecutive local trains one after the other, which caused heavy havoc. These blasts shook Mumbai and spread the shadow of fear in the hearts of the people.
This incident proved to be a black day in the history of Mumbai. Hundreds of people died, several dozen people were seriously injured and thousands of people were mentally and physically affected. Questions started to raise on the city’s security arrangements and monitoring systems.
