34 candidates filed nomination papers from Gautam Buddha Nagar Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh, out of which the papers of a total of 19 candidates were canceled by the district administration after scrutiny. Now 15 candidates are in the election fray. Dr. Mahesh Sharma of BJP is the current MP from here.
District Election Officer Manish Kumar Verma said that 34 candidates had filed nomination papers for the voting on Gautam Buddha Nagar Lok Sabha seat on April 26. All the nomination papers were scrutinized on Friday. When deficiencies were found in the nomination papers, the nomination papers of 19 candidates were rejected. In the investigation, nominations of Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Samajwadi Party’s Dr. Mahendra Singh Nagar, BSP’s Rajendra Solanki, National Party’s Kishore Singh etc. have been found correct.
Angered by the rejection of nomination papers, two candidates have demanded the Election Commission to investigate the matter and take action. Both of them have accused of deliberately canceling the nomination. National President of Azad Adhikar Sena, Amitabh Thakur has alleged that the nomination of his party’s candidate Yatendra Sharma from Gautam Buddha Nagar was deliberately rejected. Independent candidate Sunil Gautam said that he had taken ten proposers with him, who were not allowed to enter the election officer’s room and their nominations were deliberately rejected.
Gautam Buddha Nagar is a strong stronghold of BJP.
Gautam Budh Nagar Lok Sabha seat includes 5 assembly seats Noida, Dadri, Jewar, Secunderabad and Khurja. BJP is in control of all five seats. Here, Pankaj Singh, son of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, is the MLA from Noida. Dr. Mahesh Sharma of Bharatiya Janata Party has been MP from Gautam Buddha Nagar Lok Sabha seat for two consecutive terms. BJP has given him the ticket for the third time also, showing confidence in him.
This seat came into existence in 2009 and Surendra Singh Nagar of Bahujan Samaj Party was elected MP from here. At that time Nagar had defeated BJP’s Mahesh Sharma. This time we will see a triangular contest on this seat. There is an alliance between SP and Congress. BSP is contesting the elections alone.
