Meena: Amid scorching heat in Saudi Arabia on Sunday, a large number of Hajj pilgrims performed the ritual of symbolic stoning of the devil. According to Jordan’s state news agency ‘Petra’, 14 Jordanian pilgrims have died of heatstroke during the Hajj pilgrimage. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it is in talks with Saudi authorities to bury the dead in Saudi Arabia or send the bodies to Jordan.

The symbolic stoning of the devil ritual marks the beginning of Eid al-Adha for Muslims around the world who are on the final days of the Hajj pilgrimage. Stoning the devil is one of the five pillars of Islam and the final rites of the Hajj. The ritual took place a day after more than 1.8 million pilgrims gathered at the Mount Arafat outside the holy city of Mecca to complete the annual five-day Hajj rites.
