Counting of votes is about to take place in the Lok Sabha elections. Preparations have been completed. In some Lok Sabha constituencies, counting will take place in 15 rounds, while in some, counting will take place in 22 to 24 rounds. But have you ever wondered what a ’round’ means in counting votes? How is it decided that one round is over? How many votes are there in one round? Today we are going to answer all these questions.
First know who counts the votes? According to the Election Commission report, there is a Returning Officer (RO) in every constituency. It is he who decides where the counting of votes will be done. The counting of votes is done under the direct supervision of the RO. There are many assembly constituencies in every Lok Sabha constituency. Therefore, AROs are deployed to help the RO. However, the counting of all the assembly constituencies of a Lok Sabha constituency is done in the same hall.
How does the counting of votes begin?
After voting, EVMs are kept in strong rooms at RO headquarters. They are taken out on the day of counting. Then to maintain transparency, these EVMs are opened in the presence of candidates or their agents. After this, counting supervisors count the votes. These supervisors are called counting workers. First, postal ballots are counted. After about 30 minutes, counting is done from EVMs.
This is how the round is decided
According to the report of prsindia, in every round, the votes cast in 14 EVMs are counted. When the counting of votes cast in 14 EVMs is completed, then a round or a cycle is considered complete. With the counting of each cycle, the returning officer tells about the votes. Which candidate got how many votes, it is decided from there. It is known from here who is leading or who is lagging behind. When all the votes are counted, the RO declares the winner. The winner is given a certificate of victory.
