Tonk. Angered by increasing power cuts and water shortage in the city, the anger of the people of Kali Paltan area of Tonk erupted on the road on Sunday. Due to lack of electricity and water for more than 15 hours of consecutive hours, the angry people blocked tents on the main road leading from Panchbatti to the bus stand. During the protest, fierce slogans were raised against Congress leader and local MLA Sachin Pilot, Electricity Department and Water Supply Department officials.
A large number of women and men were seen in the demonstration, which was led by local councilor Badal Sahu. People said that electricity had gone away at around 2 pm on Saturday night and did not return till Sunday afternoon. During this time there was a huge problem of drinking water, due to which people were longing for drops in many mohallas.
Councilor Sahu said that this electricity problem in the area is not new. Despite giving complaints to the department several times, no hearing is being held. “From Lineman to AEN and JEN, everyone’s mobiles are found closed. There is no one to listen to the public,” he said.
BJP councilors and senior leader Abdul Razzaq also reached the dharna and called the district in -charge minister and Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar from the spot and informed them about the situation, but still no action was taken.
Seeing the situation worsening, protesters also blocked the road in Kafla Bazaar. On receiving the information, the city Kotwal Bhanwarlal Vaishnav reached the spot with a heavy police force, but the protesters refused to withdraw. After this, the teacher Rajesh Vidyarthi, Tehsildar Manvendra Jaiswal and Junior Engineer of the Electricity Department reached the spot.
Tehsildar Jaiswal assured the protesters that the District Collector would be made aware of the problem of electricity and water and resolve will be found soon. At the same time, Assistant Engineer of Electricity Department Vikas Mishra announced on the spot that a new transformer will be installed in the area soon and the work of replacing the power line will be started immediately.
The protesters warned that if the promises are not implemented soon, the movement would be further agitated.
Background: For the last few months, there are frequent power cuts and water crisis complaints in various areas of Tonk city. Many times power supply is disrupted under the guise of transformer burning, overloading and maintenance. In such a situation, the anger of people is constantly increasing.
So far no official response has come from MLA Sachin Pilot. At the same time, departmental officials have given assurances, but the trust of the local people is now broken. People are demanding that this time not only the words of words, concrete action should be taken.
