Maize: Ahead of the Haj pilgrimage starting later this week, a large number of Haj pilgrims have started arriving in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. According to Saudi officials, more than 15 lakh foreign Haj pilgrims have reached Mecca till Tuesday. Most of the pilgrims have reached here by air from different countries around the world. According to officials, more people are expected to arrive for the Haj pilgrimage which is officially starting on Friday. Apart from this, thousands of Muslims and others living in Saudi Arabia will also participate in Haj.
Saudi officials said they expect the number of pilgrims attending the Hajj this year to be higher than in 2023. They said more than 1.8 million people performed the Hajj in 2023, while more than 2.4 million Muslims performed the Hajj in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Palestinian ministry, 4,200 Palestinians were among the Hajj pilgrims who arrived in Mecca earlier this month. Mecca’s Grand Mosque on Tuesday saw a huge crowd of Hajj pilgrims who completed a ritual of walking seven times around the Kaaba.
Mecca is the holy place for Muslims
The Mecca Mosque is considered the holiest site in Islam. Temperatures reached 42 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, and many people were seen carrying umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun. Rabia al-Raghi, a Moroccan woman who arrived in Mecca for Hajj, said, “When I reached Al-Masjid al-Haram and saw the Kaaba, I felt relieved. I am very happy.” The woman has arrived here with her husband and daughter. (AP)
