Patna. At least 19 people have died due to consumption of spurious liquor in the last 7 days in 4 districts of Bihar. Four people died on Sunday evening due to spurious liquor in Gopalganj district. Of these, 3 were from Kuchaikot police station in Shivrajpur village and one from Pendula Ramsen village.
The deceased have been identified as Hiralal Shah, Saheb Lal Yadav and Harendra Yadav of village Shivrajpur and Om Prakash Bhagat of village Pendula Ramsen. Both had consumed alcohol on Saturday evening.
He then complained of abdominal pain, restlessness and low visibility at night and was taken to private hospitals in Gopalganj where he died.
The relatives of the deceased took away the dead bodies without postmortem.
Earlier, 5 people died on Saturday in Basa Sonwalia village of Baikunthpur police station area.
Apart from this, 5 people died due to suspected spurious liquor in Bhagalpur. The deceased had consumed alcohol at a wedding function on Saturday. Another person also lost his eyesight in this incident.
Due to this, 3 people died in Debar village of Daronda police station area of Siwan and 2 in Nautan Tola of Nautan police station area of Bettiah.
During the budget session in the assembly, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar claimed that he would not spare any body that consumes or trades liquor in the state.
Kumar said, “We are using drones and helicopters to keep a watch on liquor operations in Bihar and we will soon use airplanes (light aircraft) as well. The state government has also procured motor boats and sold liquor. Special training has been provided to sniffer dogs to trace them.”
DGP SK Singhal has also asked the Bihar Police officials to keep a watch on the goons through drones and helicopters before Holi. He has directed the regional officers to implement it on priority basis. The people of the state are expected to celebrate Holi in a big way this year as the threat of corona is temporarily over.
