New Delhi . Two people died after inhaling poisonous gas in the sewer in the national capital on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Chittaranjan (26) and Abdul Salam (18). An official gave this information. According to the official, the incident took place in the city’s Bawana area when rag picker Abdul Salam entered the Ganga Toli road near Balaji Chowk in Bawana to collect waste plastic by removing the sewer cover. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Brijendra Kumar Yadav said, “When he did not come out after sometime, his younger brother Sahil (12) raised an alarm and sought people’s help.”
A passing driver Chittaranjan Chowdhury went inside the pit to rescue the man. Unfortunately, after some time the other person also remained inside. On receiving information about the incident, Delhi Fire Service and police reached the spot. Both the men were pulled out of the sewer and taken to MV Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.
The official said that action has been initiated under the relevant section of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
