Membership of 2 MLAs Premanand Nayak and Arabinda Dhali has been terminated.
Bhubaneswar: Membership of two MLAs who left the ruling Biju Janata Dal in Odisha and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party has been terminated. According to reports, Odisha Assembly Speaker Pramila Malik has terminated the membership of MLAs Arabinda Dhali and Premanand Nayak, who left BJD and joined BJP. Former minister Nayak, who represented Dhali from Jaidev assembly constituency under Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency and Telkoi assembly seat under Keonjhar Lok Sabha constituency, had joined BJP after resigning from the primary membership of BJD in March 2024.
Prashant Kumar Muduli had filed a petition for disqualification
The disqualification of both the MLAs came on a petition filed by Jagatsinghpur MLA Prashant Kumar Muduli on March 18. The petition, filed by Prashant Kumar Murali, demanded that the membership of Dhali and Nayak be abolished under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution. Let us inform that neither Nayak nor Dhali responded to the petition nor appeared before the Speaker to present their side. After this, the Speaker of the Assembly disqualified both Dhali and Nayak and said that they would no longer be members of the Assembly.
Assembly elections will be held in Odisha along with Lok Sabha elections.

Under the assembly elections in the state, the first phase of voting will be held on May 13, the second phase of voting will be held on May 20, the third phase of voting will be held on May 25 and the fourth phase of voting will be held on June 01. Let us tell you that the first, second, third and fourth phases of the assembly elections are the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh phases of the Lok Sabha elections respectively. In the last elections, BJD had won 112 out of 147 seats while BJP had won 23 seats. This time, talks were also going on for an alliance between BJP and BJD, but the talks remained unresolved and now both the parties are face to face.
