Itanagar. Two suspected NSCN-IM militants were killed and another injured in an encounter with security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district. The police gave this information on Tuesday. A cadre was arrested and a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from him after an encounter with members of the Naga organization in Tirap’s Kolagaon village on Monday night, police said.
Following a tip-off that NSCN-IM cadres had gathered in the area, the police and the Assam Rifles launched a joint operation, which was followed by a fierce encounter.
However, villagers alleged that one of those killed was 51-year-old Retto Khako. Arunachal Civil Rights expressed deep concern over the murder of the villager.
The National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Isak-Muivah faction also got furious over the incident.
The NSCN-IM said in a statement that what happened after the killing of Naginu in Tirap district more than a year ago was heart-wrenching.
“But this time NSCN is not going to pick up the things lying down. Now is the time to say ‘enough is enough’. Two NSCN cadres are being deliberately killed. Despite knowing that They are not members of the NSCN-K (YA), something we cannot tolerate anymore.”
It said a question from NSCN and a conclusive answer must come from the Centre, as it wants an ‘Indo-Naga ceasefire’ in Arunachal Pradesh.
“Remarkably, on several occasions the Assam Rifles has become very aggressive against the NSCN to get the best of the ceasefire rules to suit its diabolical design,” the statement said.
