Chandigarh Deputy Mayor Taruna Mehta has taken a tough stand on a huge increase in the fine and demanded that the decision be withdrawn immediately. He described it as unjust and undemocratic move. He said that this decision will affect the common citizens, and will also affect the business class called the backbone of the city’s economy. It is a sheer dictatorship to huge increase in fine without any concrete communication or transparency. We will not accept it under any circumstances. Taruna Mehta termed the decision as anti -people and said that the administration and the BJP government at the Center are bent on ending the business environment of Chandigarh. This will negatively impact the overall development process of the city. The deputy mayor also said that after the first property tax, 5% cess on water, the increase in the collectorate rate, this decision is a sheer dictatorship. She will raise the issue in the next meeting of the Municipal Corporation and will not back down from protesting on the road when needed.
