Jama Masjid located in Tonk, Rajasthan is not only Rajasthan but one of the largest and beautiful mosques in India. This amazing mosque was built during Muslim rule in India. However, it received its true identity after declaring the British Tonk as a district in eighteen hundred eighteen. During this time, Tonk founder and Nawab Amir Ali Khan laid a lot of emphasis on education, art and architecture in his princely state, which led to the construction of many famous palaces, buildings, havelis and religious places in the city. One of these amazing examples of architecture is the royal Jama Masjid, which at that time became a grand example of architecture and artistry for the whole of India. The Jama Masjid of Tonk was built by Nawab Amir Khan in Hijri year twelve hundred and fourths, which was prepared close to the year twelve hundred Unasi in the era of Nawab Waziruddaula. The architecture of Tonk’s Jama Masjid is mainly similar to that of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, although a main difference between the two is the reservoir. The Hauz at Jama Masjid in Delhi has been constructed in the middle of the complex, while on the contrary it has been constructed in a corner of Tonk’s Jama Masjid.
This amazing mosque of Tonk has been constructed at the confluence of two roads, one part of which leads to the palace of the Nawab and the other towards Kota-Jaipur. Talking about the architecture of the mosque, it is completely built in the Mughal and Rajput architecture style. Its manufacturers have built it on a fairly high platform to show it as a peaceful and Nawabi sign. The eastern part of this mosque has an entrance to about seven feet high, with two small minarets on both sides of security. The mosque’s hose in the southwest corner is used for Vaju, while on the other hand a huge verandah has been constructed for Adi. Apart from the main gate, a huge gate equipped with nine minarets in the northern part of the mosque and a small gate in the western part. The main prayer hall of the mosque is made of white marble, around which the verses of the Holy Quran are carved like Jama Masjid and other Islamic buildings in Delhi. The inner parts and walls of this Jama Masjid are equipped with gold imagery and Meenakari, which further enhances the inner beauty of this mosque. Along with this, there are four huge minarets who are seen from the outside, which are seen from a distance and the mosque is identified. By mixing everything, its delightful complexity and texture gives it a different look.
