10% Delhiites are diabetic patients
ICMR study: Recently ICMR has studied 1,13,043 people across the country, in which diabetes has been found in 11.4 percent of the people, while above 10 percent of Delhiites have been found to be diabetic.
15% Delhiites pre-diabetic
Diabetes Expert Dr. A.K. Jhingan said that the biggest problem is that in 10% of people with pre-diabetes, it turns into diabetes. In such a situation, the number of diabetes patients in Delhi is going to increase further in the coming days.
Deadly combination of diabetes and hypertension
Dr. Jhingan said that it is becoming clear in the study that Delhiites are not only diabetic, but 30 percent people are also hypertensive. If diabetes and hypertension happen together, it becomes a deadly combination to cause disease. Because of this, the risk of heart attack increases manifold. At the same time, there can also be problems of kidney failure and loss of eyesight (retinopathy).
Abdominal obesity is more dangerous
The doctor said that in the report, 25 percent abdominal obesity has been registered among Delhiites. That is, more fat has been found near the stomach and waist of every fourth person in Delhi. The doctor said that obesity near the waist means that fat accumulates near the organs like liver, pancreas, intestine etc. Not only this, because of this the efficiency of insulin gets affected. It is recognized that pigmentation occurs in such people, the face turns black, the neck and underarms turn black. The doctor said that obesity near the waist is more dangerous than oval all obesity.
Increasing problem due to bad lifestyle
In this study, HDL cholesterol has been found to be low in 60 percent. The doctor said that this is the good cholesterol. It is better to have more of it in the body. But it is less. On the other hand, bad cholesterol ie LDL has been found to be more in 25 percent of Delhiites. Somewhere it is all because of the bad daily routine.
20% of the new diabetics are coming for treatment
C.K. Diabetes expert Dr. Rajeev Gupta of Birla Hospital said that on an average, 20 percent young patients who have diabetes come daily. The biggest reason for this is their poor lifestyle, lack of sleep, stress.
COVID increased diabetes patients
Dr. Rajiv said that after COVID, the cases of diabetes have increased further. This virus directly attacks the beta cells of the pancreas and also causes inflammatory problems. Due to this, the efficiency of insulin is affected, due to which the number of new diabetes patients is also increasing.
Negligence increases the risk
Dr. Rajeev said that first of all know that diabetes is a lifelong disease. Once the disease is there, it will not go away. In the beginning, people control their diet, if the doctor has given three to four medicines, then they take them on time. But gradually they get bored of this diet, party in between, eat slightly different food, nothing happens to them immediately, they think that nothing happened. Most people quit or reduce their medication within six months.
What percentage of Delhiites are affected
- Diabetes: 10%
- Pre-diabetes: 15%
- Hypertension: 30%
- General Obesity: 25%
- Abdominal obesity: 25%
- Low HDL cholesterol: 60% lower
- High LDL cholesterol: 25%
These reasons cause diabetes
- If there is someone in the family, then the risk is more: If the parents have diabetes, then its risk is more.
- Obesity: Being overweight is also the main reason for this disease.Obesity near waist: It directly affects insulin, hence dangerous
- High blood pressure i.e. hypertension: Hypertension is also the main cause of diabetes.
- Stress: If there is more mental stress then it affects the hormones and it becomes the cause of diabetes.
- Lack of sleep: At least seven hours of sleep is necessary
- Smoking: Smoking impairs the efficiency of insulin.
Morning sugar level is normal even then there can be diabetes
Dr. Jhingan said that many times people get their sugar level checked early in the morning on an empty stomach. They come more on an empty stomach and less after eating. He does not accept the fact that he has diabetes. This is often seen in pre-diabetics.
children are also becoming victims
Age 16 years, weight 80 kg, sleeps late night and wakes up at 11 am, sugar level above 250. The child’s father says doctor, tell me how can it be cured without medicine?
Doctor: Reduce 5 to 7 percent weight within three months, control diet, do physical activity for 30 to 60 minutes.
Catering is also the reason: Chaat, Pakoras, Samosas are mostly double fried. When oil is double fried, trans fat is formed in it, which increases obesity and cholesterol. Apart from this, there is more salt in chips, french fries etc., even now all these things are sold outside the schools and children eat them comfortably. If you eat more salt, fat, butter everyday then it is not possible to control these diseases.
