Gopalganj/Kushinagar. Gopalganj Police of Bihar has recovered radioactive substance Californium from Belthari check post adjacent to UP border. Bihar Police has recovered 50 grams of Californium. The value of this radioactive element in India is 17 crores per gram. According to this, the price of the recovered Californium in the international market is estimated to be around Rs 850 crore. Bihar STF, Special Operations Group and Kuchaykot police station recovered 50 grams of Californium on August 8 under a joint operation. Three smugglers have been caught smuggling this valuable radioactive substance. All three smugglers were going from Kushinagar to Gopalganj on bike.
According to the Belthari check post police in Bihar on the UP-Bihar border, the main smuggler of this banned substance, Chhotelal, is a resident of Parsauni village in Tamkuhiraj police station area of Kushinagar, while his other accomplices Chandan Gupta and Chandan Ram are residents of Gopalganj district of Bihar.

He was trying to sell this substance for many months. Police had received information from an informer in Gopalganj. Police acted on the secret information and caught three smugglers. A special team of Forensic Science Laboratory has been called for handling the radioactive substance and further investigation. Department of Nuclear Energy has also been informed. The substance has been tested at IIT Madras. It is being said that this substance has a connection with the nuclear power company of Puducherry.
