Lucknow . Elections are being held for 36 MLC seats of the UP Legislative Council. Out of 139 nomination papers filed for 30 seats in the first phase, 34 nominations were canceled in the scrutiny held on Tuesday. Now a total of 105 candidates are left in the fray. Thursday 24 March is the last date for withdrawal of nominations. After the cancellation of the papers of SP candidates Udayveer Singh and Rakesh Yadav on two seats of Mathura-Etah-Mainpuri, unopposed election has been decided here. After the withdrawal of nominations on March 24, the candidates who won the election unopposed will be announced.
According to the information received from the commission, in the scrutiny of nomination papers held on Tuesday, maximum eight nominations were canceled in Meerut-Ghaziabad seat. While five nominations were canceled on Banda-Hamirpur seat. Three nominations each were canceled on Moradabad-Bijnor, Lucknow, Mathura-Etah-Mainpuri seats.
Now in these 30 seats, maximum 6-6 candidates are in Badaun, Pratapgarh, Agra-Firozabad and Meerut-Ghaziabad seats respectively. Scrutiny of nomination papers could not be done in Aligarh on Tuesday. The process of nomination admission is going on for the six seats of the second phase. A total of 16 nominations were filed on Tuesday. So far, a total of 25 nominations have been filed for these six seats. Similarly, one paper each from Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Varanasi, Mirzapur-Sonbhadra, Jhansi-Jalaun-Lalitpur, Kanpur-Fatehpur and Pilibhit-Shahjahanpur was rejected on Tuesday. Maximum seven candidates are from Deoria. Apart from this, there are four candidates in Gonda, five in Faizabad. In Basti-Siddharthnagar, Ballia and Gorakhpur-Maharajganj, three candidates each are in the fray. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on Wednesday. 25 is the day of withdrawal. Polling will be held for all 36 seats on April 9.
