The Ujala scheme launched by the Central Government has achieved a big record. So far 36.7 crore LED bulbs have been distributed under this scheme and about 19 thousand crore rupees have been saved due to this.
The UJALA scheme was launched by PM Modi on 1 May 2015. The scheme aims to encourage replacement of yellow bulbs with new LED bulbs in the village as yellow bulbs consume many times more electricity than LEDs, due to which carbon emissions in the environment also increase. Shortly after the launch of the scheme, it became the world’s largest zero subsidy scheme.
386 crore carbon emissions reduced: With the help of UJALA scheme, it has helped in reducing the carbon emissions of 38.60 million tonnes annually in the country. The government’s scheme got a lot of support from the people and in the last 7 years, the government has been successful in distributing 36.78 crore LED bulbs. The government claims that due to this scheme, about 4800 crore units of electricity are being saved every year in the country, while success has been achieved in saving electricity of more than 19 thousand rupees.
Reduction in the price of LED bulb due to this scheme: Before the advent of the UJALA scheme, the cost of an LED bulb in the country was around Rs 350, but after the introduction of this scheme, the retail price of LED bulb to the government was Rs 70 to 80. Succeeded in doing it. Due to this scheme, the country’s annual capacity of manufacturing LED bulbs has increased from one lakh per month to 40 million per month.
LED in 10 rupees: Under the Ujala scheme, the central government gives LED bulbs to the common citizens for 10 rupees. Under this scheme at least three to four LED bulbs are given to each rural household and this scheme is currently running in many states of the country. The UJALA scheme is run by the government company EESL Limited.
