Apart from the death of seven children in a fire incident at a baby care hospital in Delhi, another heartbreaking incident has come to light. Four children mistook rat poison for toothpaste and brushed their teeth with it. After this, their health deteriorated. These four children had to be admitted to the ICU.
This incident happened near Vridhachalam in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu. These children were admitted to a nearby hospital on Saturday night after their health deteriorated. Then they were referred to JIPMER, Puducherry. They are admitted in the ICU there.
Kids were playing with rat poison
According to a report in the New Indian Express, Raja, a resident of Kokkampalayam village, had two daughters, 5-year-old Lavanya and 2-year-old Rashmita, who went to their maternal uncle’s house. There, they, along with their two cousins, consumed rat poison.
According to doctors, these children are undergoing treatment. They have been kept under observation for 72 hours. According to them, the effect of the poison can last for 72 hours. According to the doctor, three children had only brushed with this paste while one had even eaten some of the paste.
According to the police, this rat poison was in a tube and the children were playing with this tube. Then they brushed their teeth with it. When the family members saw the rat poison in the mouth and hands of these children, they immediately took them to the nearby hospital. Then they were referred to Puducherry on Sunday night.
The Tamil Nadu government had banned the sale of rat poison at grocery stores in the state from 2022. Despite this, it is sold illegally at some shops.
