Colombo: India arrested four ISIS suspects from Sri Lanka in Gujarat last week. After getting information that the ISIS suspects were residents of Sri Lanka, India also informed the government there. Now the Sri Lankan government said on Monday that India will decide about the action against the four Sri Lankan ISIS suspects arrested at Ahmedabad airport last week, while the officials here will investigate whether they were involved in terrorist acts in the island nation.
On May 19, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested four Sri Lankan nationals linked to the banned Islamic State (IS) outfit who had allegedly come to India to carry out terrorist activities following instructions from their Pakistan-based masters. The four men had taken an IndiGo flight from Colombo to Chennai on May 19. Sri Lankan Law Minister Vijayadas Rajapaksa told reporters here, “India will deal with them (the arrested suspects) according to its law.
Sri Lanka said it will investigate the matter
Sri Lanka will investigate whether they have participated in any terrorist act or assisted any group while staying here.” Last week, Sri Lankan authorities launched a high-level operation to investigate four Sri Lankans arrested in Gujarat. Sri Lankan police had arrested an associate of the four arrested ISIS suspects last Thursday. Police had said that the associate of the suspects is the son of a drug smuggler, who is being questioned. (Language)
