New Delhi: Police in Andhra Pradesh were surprised when they saw piles of currency notes in four trucks running simultaneously on the road. There were Rs 2,000 crore cash in these four trucks, after seeing which the police team was shocked. However, later such information was received, after which the police released those trucks after some time. In fact, four container trucks loaded with ‘soiled or defaced’ notes worth Rs 2,000 crore were detained by Andhra Pradesh Police on Thursday, but later released as the cash belonged to banks. An officer gave this information.
According to news agency PTI, Anantapur Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) RN Ammi Reddy said that after verification of documents, the trucks filled with cash were released and these currency notes were of ICICI, IDBI and Federal Bank. The official said that the trucks coming from Kerala were headed towards the regional office of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Hyderabad.

Officer Reddy further said that due to the Model Code of Conduct being implemented in view of the Lok Sabha elections, the trucks were stopped and checked. When the shutters of the trucks were raised, there was a pile of notes. This was basically a consignment of soiled notes, which belonged to ICICI, IDBI and Federal Bank and was worth Rs 2,000 crore. He was being taken from Kochi to RBI, Hyderabad. Let us tell you that voting for parliamentary and assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh will be held simultaneously on May 13.
The vehicles escorting the trucks were
Police said that these four trucks had escort vehicles and all the necessary documents were provided to the police. The DIGP said that confirmation was taken and verified from the concerned banks and RBI. The official said that Income Tax Department officials, Election Returning Officer and others were involved in the verification process. However, Reddy said the state police had no prior information about the movement of such currency notes.
