The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) office in India is engaged in setting new standards to promote sustainable development and reduce its environmental footsteps. The UN office has reduced its consumption by 48 percent since the year 2017 with the help of solar energy roof, energy-skilled buildings, electric-powered vehicles and zero-waste methods, which now ranks first in terms of recording the most impressive reduction in carbon emissions in the Asia-Pacific region. The ‘Greening Moonshot’ initiative of the UN Development Program focuses on reducing the use of carbon -based energy and encouraging renewable solutions, so that the impact on the environment in the daily functioning of the organization can be reduced. UNDP Clean energy generated from the 174 kW solar photovoltaic plant on the roof of the office, now meets most of the energy needs of this building. From light to air conditioning and other equipment – solar energy is replacing fossil fuel and energy consumption is being changed to the climate goals. © Undp India Solar Power Plant on the UN office roof in New Delhi. The new thinking development program towards energy use says that this is not only a superficial change, but every change is the result of a thoughtful strategy adopted at every level, and for this, every part of the building has been repaired as per the requirement and new parts have been added. It is possible to keep the building cool with low energy consumption. © Undp India consumes less power by keeping new energy-efficient cooling machines and HVAC systems, keeping things cool. Through the heat-reflective tile, insulation and dual-layer window heads, the heat growth has helped to reduce the heat growth by 40 percent. This has also reduced the need to keep the building cool and the atmosphere inside has been temperature-elastic. At the same time, if the smart lighting of the sensor-based LED is not required, now the light is closed automatically, which has reduced the waste of electricity. © Undp India can reduce the temperature of more than 40% from the tiles, XPS insulation, and double-glazed faults, which reduces cooling needs and cools within the office. Pollution is a major problem in efficient monitoring system, and therefore the UNDP office has also included the air purification system in its initiative. This is not only helping the employees to protect the health of the employees, but their efficiency is also getting better. The situation is monitored in a real time by a team for the consumption of energy. From temperature, air system and air conditioning to charging of electric vehicles, every decision is taken on the basis of data. © Undp India is able to make data-operated decisions by monitoring the energy monitoring team, whether to adapt HVAC to be suited or to charge electric vehicles more effectively. The UNDP office has four electric powered and a hybrid vehicle to make the movement from electrical-powered vehicles energy efficient, which is charged from the roofing solar panel itself. Through this, along with reducing carbon emissions, it also contributes to improving the air quality of New Delhi. And this is an example of how clean transport can be adopted in workplaces as well. © Undp India Office is being used by electric vehicles in movement. This commitment is not limited to energy and transportation for the methods based on better waste management based on sustainable development and it is also reflected in garbage management and recycling. Organic waste is used as manure, the thrown paper is being reused, and the emphasis is on disposal of electronic-waste. After washing the hand, the dryer machine is being used to dry instead of using ‘paper towels’, and 100 percent re-cycling materials are being used. © Undp India is reused by converting the paper thrown into notepad etc. Water conservation is also part of this strategy. Through the system for the harvesting of rainwater in the office premises, about half of the rainfall is reused after collecting it every year. At the same time, the consumption of both water and energy decreases from the advanced cooling tower. © Undp India waste is separated at the source itself, its efficient re-recording and proper settlement is ensured. The change towards change is also serious about the development program, carbon emissions caused by the trips, in view of which, a new green travel policy has been adopted. Virtual meetings are given priority if not necessary, attempts are made to complete the official trips simultaneously and the transport with low emissions is being promoted. The local representative of UNDP in India, Angela Lucigi, says, “Greening Moonshot is not just an initiative, not just an attitude. We do not give only advice. Through management and water conservation, we are making every operation an example of change. ”According to UNDP, for climate action, moving beyond a policy document, changes in the culture of daily functioning and determination are important.
