Bhilwara. The world’s largest zinc producer and responsible mining company Hindustan Zinc’s three mines Kayad, Sindeser Khurd and Rampura Agukha have been given a reputed 5-star rating for the financial year 2024-25 by the Indian Mines Bureau (IBM). This honor is the biggest award given by the Government of India for scientific, safe and sustainable mining methods. It is noteworthy that Kayad Mine has received the ninth, Sindesar Khurd has received four, Rampura Agucha Mine, which is the world’s largest underground producer mine, has received the award for the second consecutive year so far. These awards in New Delhi, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Mines, Sanjay Lohia and IBM’s Deputy General Dr. P.N. Granted by Sharma. Expressing happiness over this honor, Arun Mishra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, said that, our mines are now known not only for production, but also for their coordination with nature and community. This 5-star rating every year shows our commitment to sustainability, innovations and long-term value. Our goal is to empower communities and create a better future with the environment. This 5-star rating recognizes excellence in many stability norms such as environmental management, plan to close the mine, engagement with stakeholders and transparency. This achievement reflects the importance of sustainability in every aspect of the mining works of Hindustan Zinc.
Leaded in environment and water management
Despite India’s highest operational areas, Hindustan Zinc has made great progress in water management. The company has recently become 3.32 times the water positive, which is much better than the earlier 2.41. DNV has confirmed this. The company has resolved to reduce the consumption of net water by 50 percent by 2030 and use 100 percent less quality water for smalting. These initiatives directly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals SDG 6 of the United Nations. Hindustan Zinc is also constantly improving climate action, biodiversity and cyclicity under its 2030 sustainable goals. Its certified science -based target initiative SBTI targets it include this among some global mining companies that are following the path of 1.5 degree centigrade global warming. The company’s environmental product manifesto (EPD) and Asia’s first low-carbon zinc, Equagen’s introduction has further strengthened its ESG. Apart from its operations, Hindustan Zinc also plays an important role in restoring and saving ecosystems. The company has recently launched several important biodiversity projects including MoU with Rajasthan Forest Department to develop Miawaki tree plantation, weightland restoration and India’s first crocodile conservation reserve. Hindustan Zinc is constantly changing the metal and mining sector through important yojana on zinc sustainability, excellent operation and social responsibility.
